In spite of not blogging for forever, I have been knitting. I managed to finish my mini KAL w/ Mary project. Pattern: Lacy Skirt with Bows by Kat Coyle from Greetings from Knit Cafe, in size 37"
Yarn: Vickie Howell Craft, in Suss, 6.3 balls
Needles: size 4s. I used a bryspun flexible for the lace, and an addi turbo for the body.
Time to knit?- 4 weeks
Verdict. I really like it. It's quite fitted, in part b/c my gauge was a bit smaller than called for, but I like the way the fabric looks. I need spanx underneath for a good look, but that's OK. The Craft grew a bit with blocking- I was expecting it to be shorter, but again, it's worked fine. I threw it in the dryer at the very end, and it shrunk up a little. I even wore it to work on Friday (although it's not quite teaching appropriate, it's fine for office hours), and left it on for our Friday fun with the neighbors. I also really like Craft. The milk fiber content seems to make it much lighter than 100% cottons. It was easy to work with, and not at all splitty. My only worry is how the joins will hold. We shall see!
I'm still working on Hanami, but I'm down to the last 2 sections. I love the basket weave section, and the falling leaves looks OK, but I had to start a new skein of Malabrigo lace weight, and the colors are not the same. My first was variegated- it actually striped between a lighter and darker shade of green. The second skein is mostly the lighter shade with occasional bits of an even lighter green. I'm disappointed because I realized I prefer the darker shade. What can you do?
Life-
The other day I commented to one of Claudia's postings, and she asked me how life as a professor (well, adjunct) is going. It's hard to know. On a personal level, I've managed to start sleeping the night before class, and I can lecture without my voice shaking the entire time (both good signs) but I managed to forget that I had to get home early to meet my older daughter at the bus one day. Luckily, she wasn't phased, and spent an hour at home alone on the computer (which is scary).
As for the class, I'm hopeful. Teaching isn't easy. Sometimes they look at me like I've got two heads, but then they rarely ask a question other than "would you repeat that?". I've only had 3 sets of classes though, so I'm still optimistic! I've actually got tons of work to do. This weekend I have to go over 84 2 page complaints. (I've got about 30 left). I've only been hired for this semester, and if they ask me back for next year, I'm going to try to sit through someone else's class next spring. So, wish me luck, and if you don't hear much from me, you know why!
Have a great week!

That skirt is ooh la la on you! Well done! I've been cranking away on it but still am at the every 6th row decrease. At least I have more yarn now. Good luck with your teaching; I bet you're a natural. Keep up the confidence because that's what sells them every time.
The skirt is to die for - I love love love it! It fits you prefectly.
Teaching will get easier - doing something new is always a little uncomfortable for everyone - no matter what it is. It must feel great to have those first few classes behind you - yay!
84 complaints - that a lot of complaining -LOL
That turned out beautifully! Thank you so much for using my yarn. :) xo, Vickie
Ooo, girl! That skirt is *hot*!
i LOVE the skirt. I keep seeing these pop up around blogland and think I should queue one up!!
Good luck with the teaching. Sounds like you're doing great :)
Love the skirt! I like the fit and the color. Sounds like teaching's going well! Beware the plagiarists, is all I have to say about that...
That's beautiful, and looks great on you!
The skirt is gorgeous! I've been wanting to make a skirt for ages, but have been nervous about how it would look in the end. I think you might get me off the fence, finally.
I'm glad to hear that your teaching job is getting easier.
